It’s Cuttin’ Time

The Oilers announced this afternoon that they made assignments to the minors. Some of these guys aren’t NHL players, but for sure there are three that you should keep your eye on.

Keep an eye on these three

Ethan Bear is eligible to return to his WHL Thunderbirds for an overage season, but it looks like the Oilers want him down on the farm, I can’t blame them he dominated the Dub last year.

Free agent college signing Joseph Gambardella had a strong young stars tournament and looked good down in Calgary on Tuesday, he’ll benefit from seasoning down in the minors.

Oilers fans should be excited about the Big Z, Paigin, this guy could develop into a stud.

Still up with the big club

Mitch Callahan, Jujhar Khaira, Brad Malone, Pakarinen, Ty Rattie, Bryan Ferlin, Grayson Dowling, Joey Laleggia and Patrick Russel are still battling it out for bottom six spots—when fans see that “Russel was assigned” they’ll go nuts thinking that Kris was, I can’t wait for that. We’ll get the chance to see Kailer Yamamoto again this weekend. Khaira has been a wrecking ball this camp, he’s certainly taking over Matt Hendricks spot on the roster if he keeps it up.

On the blue line, there seems to be a real battle ensuing, if I were Gryba I’d be worried about Ryan Stanton and Yohann Auvitu. The Oilers brass looks very smart for signing Ryan Mantha, the 6’5 d man continues to impress me more and more each day. Caleb Jones has outlasted WHL foe Ethan Bear, but for how long? Keegan Lowe and Dillon Simpson, both sons of famous Oilers also remain on the roster.

Nick Ellis and Brossoit have been fun to watch duke it out in the last couple games, how much longer will it continue, and who will be Talbot’s backup come October 4th. Eddie Pasquale is also still in Edmonton.

.What do you think of the assignments? Who do you think has looked the best so far? Let me know by shooting me a tweet @nooorzy.
